When architecture is understood as an image, it loses its agency to generate new experiences. Repetition delays this condition by encouraging the continual construction of the whole. Its image is the manifestation of experiential recollection and projection. Repetition allows the construction of the image to be a continual process because its removal of difference disorients spatial memory. Through its uniformity, repetition eliminates referents to time and distance. I am proposing that there are two types of architectural repetition: the recursive and the teleological. The recursive is the continual repetition of the same with no end, and the teleological is additive, repeating differences toward an end
