Housing studio
The most sustainable architectural act is to build smaller and to shrink daily circulation networks. In order to maximize land use for my site and to maintain an FAR of 2.0, I chose to arrange housing units in a totem configuration. Instead of using the assigned proportions of unit types - studio, 1BR, 2BR, 3BR, loft, and live/work - I increased the proportion of live/work units and decreased the alloted square footages. This freed up land for sheep grazing and farming. On the highest floor of the building, community greenhouses and chicken coops were added for year-round produce.
