Dream House
Spring 2008
Options studio with Mack Scogin
Students were asked to each choose a site for their projects. The studio critic then chose a program that he found fitting for each scenario. My site was a recurring dream I was having for a few months. With each dream, there was a different interpretation of a large abandoned manor - different entrances, views, and characters. It wasn't clear whether it was the same site existing in different times or separate places altogether. The building envelope, facades, and plans were inconsistent. Mack chose an aquarium for the program. What brings the two together is the idea of the extended threshold, the difference between being bound by someting seemingly infinite and and not knowing the end to something discrete.
